Girls Weekend at Hollymead House at $760

After my 2021 wedding reception, I decided to treat myself to a quick trip to Charlottesville, Virginia. You can read all about that adventure here. I explored Shenandoah National Park, downtown Charlottesville, and the Monticello wine trail. I fell in love with the area and was looking for an excuse to go back. When one of my childhood friends suggested a weekend trip, I suggested the Hollymead House in the beautiful north Charlottesville area.

Just an hour and a half from Richmond and two hours from DC, Hollymead House is the perfect bed and breakfast for your next trip. Hollymead House is wonderful for a couples getaway, reunion, or girlfriend getaway. Hollymead House offers all the luxuries of a hotel stay, but has the charm of a private home.

Originally built as a federal farmhouse, this historic property has been restored to the beautiful home it is today. Join me as we explore North Charlottesville and why Hollymead House should be on your radar.

Features of Hollymead House:

Hollymead House includes the Manor House where there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It also hosts the breakfast area, a library, and a parlor. In the guest cottage there are 4 additional bedrooms and bathrooms. You can rent a single room in the Guest Cottage or the full Guest Cottage if you have a larger group. For our stay, we were in the Rogers Room, which is one of the four rooms in the Guest Cottage . Some of my favorite features of the room include the additional seating, a working fireplace,  dreamy robes and the plush bedding, which was perfect after a long day of traveling or exploring.

Since it is a true bed and breakfast, you are served a wonderful continental breakfast with homemade biscuits and jam, yogurt and granola as well as coffee and juice. They even had complementary water for us to take out as we explored the area! Right next to the breakfast area in the Manor House is the library. It is filled with tons of books covering topics from history, art, and fiction. I also love that there’s a chess and checkers board to enjoy in the library – perfect if you’re looking for a great indoor activity. Right outside the Guest Cottage is a lovely outdoor patio area. It is the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon wine or charcuterie board.

Costs of Hollymead House (2 night minimum for weekends):

On weekdays, the nightly rate is between $294.58 – $351.23, which includes all taxes, fess, cleaning, and breakfast. That breaks down to $150 -$176 per person per night.

On weekends, the total rate is $623.16 -$668.48. There is a two night minimum stay for weekends. That breaks down to $312 – $335 total per person for the full weekend.

You can also book the full Guest Cottage if you have a larger group. The Guest Cottage is perfect for a family, a wedding party, or a girls trip.

Wineries near Hollymead House:

One of the best perks of the location of Hollymead House is their proximity to many wineries on the Monticello Wine Trail. Charlottesville has been nominated for Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.

Oakencroft Winery

A quick 16 minute drive from Hollymead House, Oakencroft winery has a stunning tasting room with coastal vibes. Oakencroft is unique because they are working to become a sustainable winery utilizing renewable energy, hybrid wine making and adaptive grazing management at their location. Their wine tasting was 5 wines for $26 and we enjoyed their sparkling rose the best. Reservations are required to visit.

Hark Vineyards

Seventeen minutes from Hollymead House, Hark Vineyards was our second wine stop of the weekend. This winery offers stunning views with their huge outdoor tent and spaces for live music. They do offer a small indoor space that seats around 10 people which was perfect for us on a hot day. Their wine tasting was 5 wines for $15 for the house flights or $20 for the signature flight. The pours for the tasting were sizable and reservations aren’t required, but encouraged.

Barboursville Vineyard

Just northeast of Hollymead House about 20 minutes away is this stunning vineyard property. William of Hollymead House recommended we go to the Library for our visit and he was right. We loved the atmosphere of the Library and the European feel.  We each did the wine tasting which was 6 wines for $25. Our favorite wines were sparkling and Octagon red wine. To pair with our wines we ordered a cheese plate. It was the perfect portion for two people and they offered gluten free crackers which we loved.

Chisholm Vineyards

This winery is the closest to Hollymead House, only a 6 minute drive. Chisholm has a wonderful outdoor space both covered and uncovered, perfect for those fall afternoons. On Saturdays and Sundays they also have live music which we enjoyed. I ordered a frosé here for $15, but you can order flights as well.

Dining Options near Hollymead House:

Since Hollymead House is a true bed and breakfast, you already have a wonderful continental breakfast as part of your stay.

For lunch, I recommend Jack’s Shop Kitchen. We loved this spot before winery hopping as it had tons of options for different types of food. Their menu is American food with a southern flair. I ordered the balsamic chicken sandwich with an order of parmesan fries. The sandwich was well balanced, but the fries were the star of the show.

For dinner, I recommend Fiorano. They offer a mixture of Mediterranean, Italian and Indian classics. The best part, their location is only 9 minutes from Hollymead House.

Final Thoughts on Hollymead House:

Hollymead House is more than just a place to stay; it is a home away from home as you explore a historical city and a historical wine trail. Whether you visit for a weekend with friends or on a family trip, Hollymead House checks so many boxes on a visit to Charlottesville. Pam and William (Hollymead House owners) have created a beautiful home away from home for all your needs on your next trip.

Budget:

Although I was hosted by Hollymead House, I wanted my budget to be an accurate representation for planning out a trip. There is an airport in Charlottesville, but it will be cheaper to fly into Richmond or Washington D.C. I used points on one of my flights which helped reduce the costs! Also, I paid for the rental and gas by myself, but if you go with friends that is another split cost to reduce the budget even further.
